It contains in a standardized format all WTO Members' commitments on the tariffs they will apply to imports from other Members. It has been established as a working tool only, without any implications regarding the legal status of the information contained in the database.

Additional information

  • At the meeting of the Committee on Market Access that took place on 2 May 2017, the representative of South Africa noted that all its pre-UR renegotiations should be considered to be concluded, as provided by Paragraph 7 of the Marrakesh Protocol to the GATT 1994, which acknowledges that special procedures had been followed by South Africa and three other members during the Uruguay Round.  See G/MA/M/65, para. 92
  • During the Uruguay Round, South Africa followed special procedures to modify concessions in its GATT Schedule that are deemed to have taken place under Article XXVIII of the GATT.  See paragraph 7 of the Marrakesh Protocol to the GATT 1994.
